Local agencies and organizations have joined together to establish a "One-Stop Career Center System." Career Centers in a single location have all the information for local residents who are seeking:
The One-Stop Career Center is also a place for local employers to recruit employees, access employee training, and learn more about the local labor market and employment trends. The Mission Statement... "The mission of the One-Stop Career Center System is to provide services for residents of San Luis Obispo County by meeting the needs of employers and those seeking jobs, education, and training." How this new system was created... In April 1997, the Private Industry Council (PIC) of San Luis Obispo County, Inc., and the State of California Employment Development Department (EDD) joined forces to combine their services for local employers and job seekers by agreeing to create a One-Stop Career Center System. They formed the "One-Stop Planning Committee." Other local agencies, organizations, and schools joined EDD and PIC on the Planning Committee. In 1998 Congress passed the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA). The new law requires the consolidation of some 60 federal and state job training and employment programs under the supervision of local policy boards, called "Workforce Investment Boards." The new law requires delivery of training and employment services through local One-Stop Career Centers.
