Introduction to Private Industry Council Services
This workshop will provide an orientation to the WIA employment services available from
the Private Industry Council (PIC) and what the eligibility requirements are for these
services. Attendance at this workshop is the first step to applying for PIC (WIA) programs.
Please bring a completed Information Survey with you to this session. Information Survey
forms are available in the Resource Center.
Creekside Career Center
Career Exploration
Identify your values and your personal network to broaden your job seeking
scope; focus within occupational area that may enhance personal satisfaction
on the job.
Computer Based Career Assessment
There are many tools available on the Internet and computer software programs which
can help you find the career paths that are right for you. This workshop will introduce
these valuable resources and give you an opportunity to try them for yourself! (No
previous computer experience is necessary.)
Orientation to Cuesta College Programs (Academic and Vocational)
Spend an hour with a Cuesta counselor. Learn about courses and programs available
at Cuesta College for job preparation, academic growth, and personal
development. Learn about career assessment tools, how to apply for admissions and
register for classes, and gather tips for getting off to a good start at Cuesta.
Federal/State Basic Payroll Tax Seminar (For Employers Only)
Topics include: State payroll reporting requirements . . . covering forms, employer
obligations and posting requirements; how to use "CalJOBS" internet job bank; Federal
payroll reporting requirements . . . covering forms 940, 941, 1099, W-2, W-4, W-9 and
alternative filing forms; Federal and State factors that make a worker an employee or

Techniques in networking, how to conduct employment research, and information interviews
will be presented.
The SLO Labor Market and You
Learn how to research the local labor market so you can conduct an effective and successful
job search. Determine where the jobs you are seeking can be found so you can organize your
job search to get positive results.
Identifying Your Job Skills
Building on your skills, hobbies, likes and dislikes, you will identify all the
skills you have to offer on the job. Learn to identify and translate these skills
into career saleable skills.
Interviewing For Employment
How to make your best first impression, facing your fear of job interviews,
and how to answer those tough interview questions are just a few of the topics
covered in this workshop.
Job Applications and Resume Preparation
Be prepared! Create a master application to readily access job history,
education, dates, and references. Learn how to prepare a resume that works!
Whether you are putting together your first resume or want to polish up that
old one, this workshop is for you! After the workshop create a professional
resume in our Resource Center using the WinWay Resume computer program (bring
you educational and work history, past employer information, professional and
personal reference information and a current resume, if you have one).
Money Management
This workshop will provide valuable information on the following
topics: How to use a budget to manage your money; Opening a savings
account to secure your funds; How to get your credit report; How to
pay your loans on time; How to get control of your credit; How to
establish a relationship with a bank; and Learning all about bank services.
Start Using Job Search Techniques That Work!
The average job hunt lasts over 4 months. During that time, one-third of job seekers

Learn the 5 best (and 5 worst) methods of seeking employment. You could have a new
job in less than 30 days! This workshop is presented by Carol Christen, career coach
and job search strategist, who has clients across the country and around the world.
Starting a New Business
What are the things you should consider before starting a new business? Learn
about defining your customers and products, competition to be faced, and the structure
of a business. A SCORE counselor will discuss these issues and what money is required,
the business plan, dedication, lifestyle changes and what personal characteristics will
be required to make you successful. Following the workshop there will be a question and
answer session.
Estrella Career Center
Background and Credit Checks
This workshop will cover the common components of pre-employment screening and will offer strategies
to best prepare for the present day reality of background checks by employers. Topics include:
employment history, education, criminal history, driving history, credit history, and references.
Also, information on how to clean up credit history, driving history, and criminal history will be
presented
Career Assessment & Goal Setting
Career Assessment will delve into rekindling your passion for work by using valuable assessment
tools to find the career that best fits you! You will take the Self Directed Search Test to
discover new careers that may interest you. You will also learn goal-setting techniques,
which you may apply to the job search or your life in general.
Interviewing & Ressing fo Success
Image and Interviewing workshop will include the professional image, interviewing techniques
and the SAR's method of preparing for an interview. You will learn how to answer those tough
interview questions and how to prepare a follow up thank you letter.
Job Search Stratagies
Discover new ways to find a job, career exploration and the "Hidden Job Market". How effective
are the strategies you are using now? Come find out how to add a few more ideas to your search!
Life Skills
This workshop will focus on life skills in three important areas: Time, Stress, and Money Management.
It will provide the information needed to bring stability to your life as you plan for the future.
You will be given ideas and tips to create less stress, enjoy more time, and much more! Come learn
valuable techniques and increase your life skills today!
Resume Writing
Do you need a new resume or has it been awhile since you dusted off your copy of your last resume?
Join us in learning the Do's and Don'ts of resume writing. You will learn the difference between
the chronological and functional resume, formatting a good cover letter and the importance of a
good power portfolio.
You've Got The Job, Now What?
This workshop will teach you time management techniques and prepare you for your first day of
work. It will address how to handle the unexpected emergencies and co-worker relations. You
will also learn valuable conflict management and teamwork skills.
